The first part of the new DE&S operating model is now in place marking a major step toward implementing our future ways of working.

Designed to support UK Defence in setting up new programmes for success from the start, the Gateway provides, for the first time, a consistent, single-entry point into DE&S for all new capability needs.

Designed to support UK Defence in setting up new programmes for success from the start, the Gateway provides, for the first time, a consistent, single-entry point into DE&S for all new capability needs.

It will help us make better and earlier decisions about solutions to military requirements by partnering our expertise with insight from industry and allies and working proactively with our armed forces, MOD HQ and other enabling organisations, like dstl, as strategic partners.

Andy Start, CEO DE&S, said:

“This is a big step towards an even more effective, agile and productive DE&S. The Gateway will work with our armed forces, the wider-Defence enterprise and our allies to make sure our projects are set up for success from the very start.

“Supporting the MOD’s new Integrated Procurement Model, the Gateway will help equip our armed forces with the edge to protect our nation.”

The Gateway will enable us to build exportability into new capabilities from the start and be in a stronger position to manage our supply chains with industry in a more co-ordinated way.

This shift in approach will help Defence to prioritise capability for development, speed up decision making and supports UK Defence’s Integrated Procurement Model.

Caroline Boughton, Director of MOD Acquisition and Project Delivery, said:

“The Integrated Procurement Model announced recently described our intent to take a more joined up, Defence wide portfolio approach when deciding what our Armed Forces need to keep the UK safe.

“The IPM will ensure that, based on clear strategic outcomes, we will prioritise effectively within the available resources, and that our acquisition decisions are informed by the right expert advice at the right time.

“That’s where the DE&S Gateway comes in. It will help us to ensure that DE&S’ experts are in the room providing valuable insight far earlier in the process helping to make sure that we are buying the right things and unlocking pace in delivery.

“The standing up of the DE&S Gateway is a great step forward in improving the way we equip and support our Armed Forces.”
