Project Description
When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, DE&S was immediately mobilised to procure the battle-winning equipment required to support Ukrainians in the defence of their country.

DE&S was tasked with maximising that support, sourcing vast amounts of both lethal and non-lethal kit for Kyiv as rapidly and efficiently as possible.
The team, which includes military personnel, works side by side with partners across the Ministry of Defence, Strategic Command, Army Headquarters and industry.
This team of procurement experts has sourced and replenished essential kit at a rapid pace, underpinning DE&S’ efforts to deliver military equipment to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It has been able to set contracts and procure hundreds of thousands of pieces of battlefield and defensive equipment, including missile systems, combat vehicles and artillery ammunition.
It has also sourced communications equipment, medical supplies, body armour and helmets and helped to organise UK-based training for over 40,000 Ukrainian personnel.
This work was recognised by the National Audit Office (NAO). The independent public spending watchdog acknowledged the speed, innovation and collaboration we have shown in helping to equip and support our ally since the illegal Russian invasion began in February 2022.
In its Investigation into Military Support for Ukraine, the NAO recognised how we “significantly improved” procurement timescales, for example supplying wheeled anti-aircraft equipment in only six weeks compared to the usual one to two years.
