Job description for Security and Resilience Specialist

You’ll join our F35 Lighting team which sits within the fixed wing environment of our core delivery area. As the security and resilience specialist you’ll work with the security and resilience lead to support the delivery of the protective security strategy, policy, and governance by providing advice to senior colleagues on protective security issues and liaising with stakeholders on complex matters.

You’ll deliver cost-effective, appropriate, and proportionate protective security risk management for the UK’s hosting of F35 information systems, exploiting defence in depth methodology for the design and maintenance of protective security controls. You’ll ensure that the facility is operated and maintained in accordance with applicable security standards including the US Joint Special Access Programme Implementation Guide (JSIG) risk management framework (RMF) based on NIST 800 requirements for security management, audit and incident response as well as all applicable UK MoD standards.

Please note, the successful candidate must reside within 40-60 minutes of Abbey Wood and will be required to attend on-site regularly (typically 3-4 days per week on average), showcasing a strong commitment to achieving our security and resilience goals. Additionally, there may be opportunities for occasional travel to other UK sites.

 What you’ll be doing

  • Maintain own awareness of current and emerging policies and their impact on existing security and business continuity practices
  • Provide pragmatic advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders to support compliance with security and business continuity requirements
  • Lead in the development of security and/or business continuity processes, and procedures, and drive continuous improvement through the sharing of knowledge and best practice
  • Lead on the investigation and assessment of security and/or business continuity incidents and/or policy non-compliance
  • Support the development of effective incident response structures
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of effective risk/threat mitigation solution
  • Provide advice to managers and risk owners on residual security or business continuity risks and issues and support activities
  • Support activities to drive continuous improvement and encourage the sharing of knowledge and best practices
  • Support the development and implementation of security and business continuity programmes

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience in providing protective security (design and maintenance) within critical national infrastructure, Government establishments or similar

If not already held, successful candidates will be supported to undertake the training below:

  • Member of the Security Institute (MSyI) and/or member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI)
  • National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) or Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI)
  • Security Risk Management
  • Introduction to Audit and Assurance

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

  • Risk Understanding and Mitigation – Supervised Practitioner
  • Security Compliance and Assurance – Supervised Practitioner
  • Communicating and Influencing – CSBC 3
  • Managing a Quality Service – CSBC 3
