Job description for Munitions Support Operative

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be working to tight timelines and with critical ammunition outputs. You will engage in tasks related to DM, including receipt, storage, conducting maintenance and repairs of ammunition, conducting detailed checks on Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE), and loading vehicles at the depot.
You will have opportunities to work on a range of associated documentation and IT Support, all to ensure that our Armed Forces are correctly supported and supplied in a timely and effective fashion.
You will be working on site and in our warehouses, adhering to safety guidelines and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and consistent handling and storage of ammunition and explosives. You will be a proactive team player who can adapt to frequently changing, customer-focused environments.
We will provide you with guidance and training in explosives and non-explosives stores accounting and logistic systems. Working in various process buildings, you will find this role is full of variety and will give you opportunities to gain experience in DM, the intricacies of working with these items, and the ways in which we transport our goods around the world.
The work can be physically demanding and often outdoors, in challenging conditions, including poor weather.
Applicants must be over 18 years old to apply, due to the Explosive Handling Regulations.
A full medical check is required before taking up the post, and the job offer will be contingent on its outcome.
This role is 100% site based at DM Kineton on a full time, 37 hours a week basis. The usual hours are 8:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday, 8:00 – 15:30 on Friday.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting General Munitions Processing in meeting production targets with due regard to safety, time, cost, and quality.
- Conducting assembly and disassembly, examination, maintenance, repair, and modification, including packing, repacking, on-receipt, and pre-issue activities.
- Adopting a multi-skilled philosophy and approach in supporting wider depot operations and activities in accordance with local and departmental policy and procedures.
- Checking all routine and/or priority receipts and that issues are investigated, and any paper and computer records are accurately completed.
- Ensuring all palletised loads are prepared and documented in accordance with the relevant Unit Load Specification.
- Handling munitions and explosives in a safe and efficient manner.
- Processing in adherence to production schedules/targets regarding safety, time, cost, and quality.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience in working with stock and/or in a warehouse environment
- Basic IT skills including the Microsoft suite.
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
