Job description for Logistics Support Operative
Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is looking for a motivated and talented person to join the Defence Munitions (DM) team as a Logistics Support Operative, based at Sennybridge Training Area (SENTA), one of the UK’s leading military training facilities.
In this hands-on role, you’ll support the provision of General Munitions (GM) and Complex Weapons (CW), helping ensure the Armed Forces are equipped and ready for operations. With full training and support, you’ll manage the receipt, storage, maintenance, and issue of munitions and equipment from both the MoD and industry partners.
You’ll develop expertise in logistics systems (Log IS) and adopt a flexible, multi-skilled approach to wider depot operations, working in line with departmental policies. The work may be conducted in an unusually difficult or hazardous environment, including working outside in poor inclement weather conditions, working at heights or in confined spaces.

This role is 100% site based at the Sennybridge Training Area which is situated 6 miles from the LD3 8PN postcode, in a remote area with no public transport options. It is full time, working 37 hours a week. The usual hours are 8:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday, 8:00 – 15:30 on Friday. There will also be some travel required to the DM Kineton site, for training.
Reporting to the WOME Logistics and General Munitions Manager, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to national defence within a high-impact team.
What you’ll be doing
- Adopting a multi-skilled philosophy and approach in supporting wider depot operations and activities in accordance with local and departmental policy and procedures.
 - Become familiar with and adhering to all Risk Assessments relevant to the task.
 - Undertaking the physical count of explosives and non-explosives assets held on materiel accounting systems, completing necessary documentation to verify location, quantity, quality, material condition, and availability of assets.
 - Operating all Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) and ensuring pre and post use checks are conducted in accordance with local and departmental policy and procedures, and checking sheets are completed.
 - Ensuring that all issues and receipts of stores are thoroughly checked, and paperwork is correctly completed.
 - Ensuring all palletised loads are prepared and documented in accordance with the relevant Unit Load Specification.
 - Ensuring compliance with current Safe Handling Instructions Munitions (SHIM’s) and Storage and Handling equipment Procedures (SHEP’s).
 - Assisting with all logistics, storage, and planning activities to ensure that customers’ requirements are met on time and in full.
 
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience of working within a customer-focused team environment, delivering to tight timescales (Lead Criterion).
 - Knowledge of inventory and warehousing.
 - Basic IT skills using Microsoft Office tools.(Training will be provided for bespoke computer systems).
 - Recent examples of working in a physically demanding environment.
 
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
