Job description for Inventory Manager
Come and join us as an Inventory Manager at RAF Waddington.
This role is based within the Situational Awareness Command and Control (SACC) portfolio. You will be working alongside military partners daily to assist with equipment support for UK national air and maritime defence. A key part of your role will be data entry across various logistic information and financial systems to support with command and control equipment.
You will be based in a Warehouse and Stores environment, providing warehouse manual accounting and contributing to the management of returns and reports to senior supply chain manager and team leader. You will also support with managing the quarterly returns of government furnished assets from Contractors. There is also potential for development within the wider organisation.

Whilst this role is based at RAF Waddington, the portfolio is situated across the UK so there will be national travel involved to other sites as well as training and away days. Initially you would be expected to be on site full-time to familiarise yourself with the site, the team and your role, and then as required for business needs (this is expected to be approximately 40-60% of your working week).
In addition to the essential skills, technical competence and behaviours detailed in the advert below, it would be beneficial for you to have experience in Logistic Information Systems, preferably MOD LogIS including MJDI, with experience of managing an AinU account. Additionally, having a Level 5 qualification and a Supply Chain Membership with a professional body (e.g. CILT/CIPS) would be desirable for the role, but not essential.
What you’ll be doing
- Responsible for ensuring Item Data Records are created and maintained on the MoD Logistic Information Systems for agreed ranges of equipment, to enable optimised Supply Chain activities, through life.
- Responsible for ensuring Inventory Demand and Supply Plans are developed and executed for agreed ranges of equipment, within an agreed Financial Delegation limit, that optimises Inventory levels for all support arrangements, using centrally approved Inventory analysis tools.
- Responsible for ensuring optimal storage and distribution solution(s) have been identified and secured for agreed ranges of equipment, to meet the customers’ requirements for all support arrangements. Responsible for ensuring the timely production of Customs Declaration documents to enable compliant HMRC activities when distributing Inventory into/out of the UK.
- Responsible for ensuring all MoD owned inventory, within agreed ranges, are materiel and financially accounted for in accordance with Inventory Material & Financial Accounting Policy and Procedures to enable optimised Inventory, Financial and Operational Planning for all stakeholders.
- Responsible for ensuring that the disposal of Inventory is planned and conducted in a timely manner and within agreed ranges and financial delegation limits. Ensuring that appropriate Declaration Forms are utilised with item data values accurately completed. Ensure Inventory disposal is coordinated with the disposal of the Platform/Main Equipment, whilst considering the wider Defence user needs.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience working within a Supply Chain environment.
- Experience in handling, interpreting and reporting on data.
- Experience in delivering customer service.
- Experience of stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams).
