We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team at Defence Munitions (DM) Beith as an Engineering Support Operative!

In Defence Munitions we receive, store, maintain and Issue a wide range of munitions used by the UK armed forces to train, protect, and serve worldwide. Our dedicated DM staff collaborate closely with Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) delivery teams and front-line commands to ensure our troops have the right items at the right time.

In this role, you’ll work under guidance and supervision, supporting a small team in routine processing and engineering maintenance activities. You will also be involved in receiving, storing, maintaining, and issuing of the range of Complex Weapons.

Above all, you must be accountable and diligent about safety processes and procedures, ensuring ammunition and explosives are handled safely, effectively, and consistently.

This position is 100% site based., with standard hours of 37 hours a week on site, Monday – Thursday 7:45 –16:30, and on Friday 7:45 – 12:45.

A medical examination will be required before taking up the post.

What you’ll be doing

  • Conducting inspections, packing, repacking and marking activities of all Complex Weapons, Explosives items and articles with approved instructions in a safe and recognised manner, complying with local, departmental and national policy and procedures.
  • Ensuring that Complex Weapons, explosives items and articles are handled in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with Safe Systems of Work (Approval To Process) including but not limited to authorised procedures, risk assessments, manual handling & COSHH.
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and housekeeping within the explosives / non-explosives processing facilities.
  • After training, competently operating a variety of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) including cranes and vehicles in different environments.

 Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Basic understanding of IT systems.
  • Working within a team.
  • Evidence of working through tasks within strict adherence to regulations and procedures.

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

  • Enhancing service support systems – Supervised Practitioner level
  • Customer Service – Awareness level
  • Working Together – CSBC 2
  • Delivering at Pace – CSBC 2
