We are immensely proud to say that six DE&S employees have been shortlisted for the Women in Defence Awards 2019. Chosen from over 500 inspiration nominees from across the defence community, these fantastic women are being recognised for their valuable contribution to the sector and our business.

Find out more from Ross Hill, Join Enables Occupational Health & Safety Environmental Co-Orindator about her nomination, and see this month’s Desider Magazine for interviews with all our nominated staff members.

Why were you nominated for this award?

I was nominated as an unsung heroine because of the work I have done to bring mental health awareness to the forefront of the DE&S organisation, enabling the Mental Health First Aider training, providing regular presentations and events with personal testimony, liaising with individuals and managers, ensuring the messages continues to be cascaded in an effective way.

How does it feel to be recognised as one of the best women in defence?

It is an immense honour to be nominated for these awards and, after many years of working in the background, it is overwhelming to suddenly be thrust into the limelight.

What advice would you give to other women hoping to gain the same award?

Look for work that inspires you, and don’t give up at the tough fences. If you are not fulfilled in your work, then you need to find something new to challenge you,
