Defence Equipment and Support has launched a new Pregnancy and Maternity Community this week to support new parents returning to work, alongside the opening of a designated nursing room in Abbey Wood.

The Community, available to staff across all DE&S sites, aims to remove barriers for parents by offering support around wellbeing, and practical advice about integrating back into the workplace.

A new Nursing room has also been opened on the Ground floor of McIntosh offering a comfortable and safe environment for nursing parents to use.

“We believe everyone should be able to reach their full potential and parents should be fully supported at one of the most vulnerable stages of their careers”

DE&S employees Natalie James and Carla Francis who set up the community, said: “Listening to personal experiences and views from returnees, we set about building a strong community that supports both mothers and fathers in the workplace. We believe everyone should be able to reach their full potential and parents should be fully supported at one of the most vulnerable stages of their careers.

“The launch of the nursing room alongside the Community, shows a positive step in how the organisation is going above and beyond the legal requirement to make DE&S a truly great place to work.”

The new nursing room is just one of the many benefits available to DE&S employees with a young family. Our enhanced maternity, adoption and shared parental leave scheme offers 100% pay for 26 weeks, followed by statutory maternity pay for a further 13 weeks.

In addition, our flexible working policy also offers an approach that many new parents find helpful in making the transition back to work.
