DE&S IT Delivery Analyst Carl

Why did you choose to pursue a career in DE&S?

I was a policeman prior to DE&S so wanted to continue to do something that benefited my country; serving our armed forces was a great opportunity.

What does your role entail?

In my role I am responsible for the continued rollout of Wi-Fi across Abbey Wood and outlying DE&S establishments to enable more flexible working. I also support our Accessibility Needs Software users across site to ensure that they receive a satisfactory level of support with IT and hardware. And more gnerally I support all 12,000 users across site with any technical issues; my knowledge of the site infrastructure lets me advise and progress any requests from other teams to use our IT infrastructure.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

What I most like about my job is looking at what developments are coming and taking that knowledge and bringing it to our users. I also find working face to face and helping my colleagues very fulfilling, especially our users that have Accessibility Needs, using specific software/hardware etc. I am keen to show that there are plenty of opportunities for people with disabilities within the MOD.

What are the opportunities to develop and progress within your function?

I have progressed from the very bottom of our grade system and I have had plenty of opportunities to get promoted over the years. The help offered by team members when you are looking has been tremendous and very encouraging. I believe you will have ample opportunity to progress within DE&S. Training is always available and you are encouraged to take any opportunities to increase your knowledge which is beneficial to yourself and the business.
