The UK’s Ajax armoured fighting vehicle programme has been recognised for excellence in project delivery at the Global Project Controls Expo Awards.

The Ajax programme has won Megaproject of the Year at the Global Project Controls Expo Awards, held at Wembley Stadium.

Ajax represents a transformation in British Army capability. The programme is delivering 589 advanced armoured fighting vehicles as part of the British Army modernisation over the next decade. This award recognises the team’s management of this strategically vital defence capability.

The programme – which safeguards or creates around 4,100 jobs across more than 230 UK businesses – also demonstrates the Government’s commitment to economic stability and national security, two of the strong foundations underpinning its Plan for Change.

DE&S Combat Vehicles Portfolio Leader Simon Pearson said: “I am so proud that the team have been recognised for the hard work, dedication and effort they have put in over countless months and years. The sheer determination, often against a negative context, demonstrates the resilience they have shown. This is a fantastic capability and one that will deliver significant Operational Advantage to the soldiers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us and the values we believe in.”

The award judges praised Ajax for uniting multiple organisations through a single source of data, driving collaboration, transparency and efficiency. Its strong governance and culture of innovation set a new benchmark for managing complex, high-stakes defence projects.

DE&S Ajax Delivery Team Leader Shona Bates said: “Winning Megaproject of the Year is testament to the dedication, expertise and collaboration of everyone working on Ajax. This award recognises how, after difficulties earlier in the life of the programme, we’ve brought together multiple organisations through innovative project controls, creating transparency and efficiency across this complex programme

“Our team is delivering world-class armoured vehicles that will transform British Army capability for decades to come. Beyond the technology, Ajax safeguards over 4,100 jobs across the UK. This recognition validates our approach and demonstrates that effective collaboration and strong governance deliver results for our Armed Forces and the nation.”

The MOD also sponsored the Apprentice of the Year Award at the Project Controls Expo, reflecting our continued commitment to supporting apprenticeships as a foundation for the UK’s growth and prosperity. This was won by Ellie James from BAE Systems and judges commended her drive to embrace new challenges and eagerness to learn and grow.
