Job description for Project Engineer – Assurance
We are actively seeking a highly motivated, detail-focused, and results-driven Project Engineer to become an integral part of our dynamic and dedicated Maritime Assurance Group. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional who is passionate about contributing to the safety, compliance, and overall performance of complex maritime projects, systems, and operations.
As the successful candidate you will take on a pivotal role in ensuring that all aspects of our maritime projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This will involve working across a diverse range of responsibilities, from conducting thorough assessments and evaluations to implementing robust assurance processes that align with industry best practices and legal requirements.

We champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required (this is expected to be approximately 60% of your working week) to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance and business need. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role. There will also be the opportunity for travel to other sites and contractor across the UK.
What you’ll be doing
- Working in a highly regulated area, differentiate and comply with relevant legislation, regulation, policy, processes, and standards to deliver technical documentation for a sub-system. This includes the essential relation to quality, safety, security, and sustainability, of the sub-system, and the interoperability with other sub-systems.
- Manage the generation of technical requirements, defining technical deliverables/artifacts and updating other documentation for sub-systems, including the considerations to in-service support and associated costs.
- Acts upon identified risk (such as safety, environment, support, financial) and applies the principles of risk escalation and risk transfer.
- Collaborate and accommodate trade-offs with other sub-system teams and specialists, over technical requirements, and design compromises, to maximise successful system implementation and delivery.
- Support technical assurance activities within the limit of your technical discipline.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
As a minimum hold one of the below:
- A Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 6 (Such as for example Bachelors Degree);
- A Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 4 (Such as for example HND, NVQ), plus with a Professional body/institution related to your discipline hold current professional registration at the level listed below;
- A Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 3 (Such as for example HNC, BTEC, NVQ), plus a minimum of 3 further years of relevant professional experience;
- With a Professional body/institution related to your discipline, hold current professional registration at the level listed below, plus a minimum of 3 further years of relevant professional experience.
Professional Registration List
o Engineering Technician (EngTech) or
o Registered Science Technician (RSciTech); or
o Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech) or
o Chartered Chemist (CChem)
Note: Alternatives to Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) listed above (which cover England, Wales and Northern Ireland only), are the Scottish SCQF; or an international equivalent qualification, which must be supported by a statement of comparability from UK ENIC.
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
