Job description for IT Service Manager
Looking for a role with real-world impact? Join Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) as an IT service manager and support the defence of the UK. As part of our team, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing critical defence capabilities and driving technological excellence.
You’ll become part of a diverse team dedicated to the successful delivery of innovative logistic and engineering applications under the Bridging the Gap (BtG) prime contract with Boeing Defence UK. In addition, you’ll take charge of overseeing the service delivery of the AirCore application, managed under a separate prime contract with Unisys. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with both industry suppliers and defence teams, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring seamless service delivery.
You’ll have the opportunity to lead and manage a variety of activities, from security patching and outage management to in-service changes and safety oversight. You’ll also handle commercial governance and financial considerations related to these applications. Plus, you’ll work closely with front line command representatives at both staff and command levels, making a tangible difference every day.
We champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.
What you’ll be doing
- Contribute to the planning, implementation, control, review and audit of service provision to ensure service meets customer and business needs
- Lead the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release packages to ensure services and systems are released to required time and cost
- Manage and maintain the service compliance of all IT applications and service assets in line with business and regulatory requirement
- Support the Service Acceptance process, ensuring that new/amended IT Services have been formally reviewed against the service acceptance criteria, and appropriate approval/rejection as a result
- Engage with multiple stakeholders across the business and work in collaboration with senior colleagues within their specialist area to review, update and implement relevant policies and processes
- Engage with organisations, customers, suppliers, partners and peers at account level and influence them through specialist knowledge to maintain service
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Hold an Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification (Foundation)
- Have experience of IT service management/operations within a large organisation
- Have experience with the use or development of logistics applications e.g. warehousing, inventory, or middleware
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
- Service Delivery and Operations (1) – Practitioner
- Information Assurance – Awareness
- Managing a Quality Service – CSBC 3
- Seeing the Bigger Picture – CSBC 3
