Job description for Submarine Escape and Rescue
Are you an engineer looking for a role with real-world impact supporting the defence of our nation? If so, the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) have a fascinating new opportunity within Submarine Escape, Evacuation and Rescue (SM EER) joining their Naval Authority and Technology Group (NATG) in Bristol.
In this role, you’ll assist project teams in developing certification for submarine escape, evacuation, and rescue. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of SM EER across the submarine enterprise, including in-service, in-build, future classes, and disposals. Plus, you’ll get to contribute to naval authority assurance activities at submarine waterfront locations.
Your responsibilities will be diverse and impactful. You’ll review, research, and develop technical standards and processes for SM EER systems and components. This includes conducting technical investigations into innovative technologies or applications for SM EER components, challenging the status quo, and planning engineering activities to enhance safety and inform policy.
At the SDA, we champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required (this is expected to be a minimum of 40%) to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months.
