Job description for IT Developer

Are you seeking the next step in your career? Then join us as an IT Developer. You will be an integral part of a small, collaborative, and agile team delivering IT Developer activities and providing essential support for Ministry of Defence (MOD) contracts.

You will work with various software requirements to ensure the success of projects and liaise with Government departments, industry, and MOD capability Delivery Teams.

A significant part of your job will include participating in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processing. This involves conducting data extract feasibility studies, working with Engineering Through Life Support (ETLS) data, developing supply chain data projects, and sustaining data feeds to industry with external suppliers.

You will help us transition into a digital business by simplifying, clarifying, and accelerating digital services and information.

At DE&S, we champion flexible ways of working. 3 days attendance per week is required on site, to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing, creating, testing and documenting new and amended software components from supplied specifications in accordance with agreed development and security standards and processes.
  • Applying source code management and maintaining code repository, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a quality well-engineered result.
  • Training and developing Junior & Associate Developers to build capability within the Function.
  • Applying technical knowledge to design and create workable prototypes, both programs and physical outputs.
  • Supporting environment management and providing Data set for Testing. – Agile Software Development, promoting the methodology, iterative build & testing.

 Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Knowledge of source systems MJDI and GOLDesp.
  • Basic & Advanced Sequence Query Language (SQL) for Oracle SQL Developer.
  • Experience with IBM Info-Sphere products. (IBM DataStage).
  • Experience of Extract Transform Load (ETL) or equivalent.

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

  • Development and Implementation – Practitioner level
  • Service Delivery and Operations – Supervised Practitioner level
  • Communicating and Influencing – CSBC3
  • Leadership – CSBC3
