DE&S is extremely proud to have been a finalist at the Association for Project Management (APM) Awards 2023.
We were shortlisted in the Public Sector Organisation of the Year category, which celebrated government and public sector bodies “that have delivered outstanding projects, programmes and portfolios”.
While Essex County Council was declared the winner, we were delighted that the dedication and talent of our people was recognised at the Park Plaza Hotel in London last night.
We were also proud to sponsor the Small to Medium Enterprise of the Year award. Our Deputy CEO Adrian Baguley presented the trophy to CPC Project Services, which manages complex construction, infrastructure and strategic change programmes across the UK.
Rob Wixey, Head of DE&S’ Project Delivery Function, said:
“It was great to attend the APM awards with colleagues from across DE&S, sharing in the success of our profession that has achieved amazing things in 2023. We didn’t take the spoils this year but are still extremely proud to have been finalists for Public Sector Organisation of the Year. Thanks to the great team that represented DE&S on the night, and congratulations to all of this year’s winners.”
The APM is a registered charity which delivers education, develops qualifications, conducts research and provides resources for the project management profession in the UK.
It runs events, shares best practice and gives the project management community the opportunity to connect and debate.
More than 230 entries were received for this year’s awards and 60 judges were enlisted to whittle down the submissions to come up with the finalists across 17 categories.
Over the last five years we have awarded 4,500 contracts worth £47 billion, supporting more than 88,000 jobs. In our submission to the judges, we highlighted the importance and complexity of the 550+ projects and programmes we deliver to equip and support UK Armed Forces, and our allies, around the globe.
We emphasised how our teams have reacted with agility and pace to respond to new and emerging priorities, such as the ongoing support to Ukraine following the illegal Russian invasion.
Over the past year, the Project Delivery function within DE&S has worked with colleagues to enable our collective success; developing our skills, behaviours and experience to deliver for our Armed Forces now and in the future.
