The Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle has the speed and performance to keep up with Challenger 2 over the most difficult terrain, and provide excellent mobility for the infantry.

Warrior programme at a glance

  • The Warrior family of seven variants of armoured vehicles, which entered service in 1988, has been highly successful for armoured infantry battlegroups in the Gulf War, Bosnia and Kosovo and Iraq.
  • DE&S is overseeing a major Capability Sustainment Programme which will keep the vehicles in service beyond 2040.
  • The project will improve Warrior’s effectiveness through the integration of a fully stabilised turret, incorporating the CTAi 40mm cannon, and an upgraded Thermal Imaging primary sight.
  • Other improvements include 360˚ Local Situational Awareness cameras, modular armour mounting systems and enhanced power generation and distribution.

DE&S – the force behind the armed forces

“For the first time in twenty years the MOD has fired a large calibre weapon on the move in an armoured vehicle during a Live Crew Clearance Trial.  WCSP moves forward in its Trials programme with growing confidence hitting two key milestones – Live Crew Clearance and the first 20 Battlefield Missions on its Reliability Growth Trials.”

Marcus Bruton OBE – WCSP DE&S Project Leader
