In the DE&S Strategy 2025, we committed to having net zero operations and infrastructure carbon emissions across all of our sites by 2040, and we will enable defence to achieve net zero defence equipment emissions by 2050. The new DE&S Environment Strategy sets out how we are going to achieve these commitments, how we will improve our sustainability and how we will reduce our environmental impact.

The strategy describes how we will positively champion environmental protection and environmental sustainability in everything we do, through the dedication and professionalism of our people, underpinned by strong leadership and culture. And how we will provide the Front Line Commands with enhanced capabilities by adopting rapidly evolving low carbon technology developed for the commercial sector, and by embracing different ways of delivering the capability our Armed Forces will need. These will include increased operational independence and longevity, as well as enhanced logistics and supply chain resilience.

Equally, we’ll help create long term value for our whole society by safeguarding the environment, adapting to climate change, and achieving financial savings by moving to greener energy solutions for our equipment and our estate. As well as focusing on reducing the carbon footprint of our estate, we will work with our supply chains, industry and our front line customers to increase sustainability and decrease emissions throughout every aspect of delivery and support.
