Job description for SDA Information Support Officer

Advances in information technology and digital communications are revolutionising the way we live and work, almost every aspect of our daily life depends on technology. Cyberspace has delivered many opportunities and benefits, and is fundamental to the business of SDA. However, with such prolific use of technology comes significant risk and potential threats through the loss or compromise of our information, which would impact significantly on the success of our business, and therefore to military capability and defence as a whole. This risk must become a conscious part of our daily working practices, so we can minimise it by ensuring we adopt appropriate behaviour to safeguard our data and our information and that of our suppliers.

The Defence and Security media advisory committee (DSMA) are currently recruiting for an Information Support Officer to join our forward thinking and progressive IM&IT (Information Management & Information Technology) team based at Shaftsbury House in Barrow-in-Furness. Although this post is based within Shaftsbury House, as part of the new DSMA IMIT Hub, there will also be an expectation to provide virtual support to the wider DSMA hub in Abbey Wood if required.

As an Information Support Officer, you will support the management and exploitation of information within the business; and provide advice and guidance on your area of expertise and be proactive in ensuring compliancy to relevant legislation and governance. A good awareness of records management, alongside strong organisation skills are fundamental to this post.

In addition, you will act as a Point of Contact in the facilitation of IT requirements, ensuring staff have the equipment they need and any software that may be required, and provide advice as necessary. You will also be expected to investigate any IT related incidents and escalate them if needed, facilitating access to external engineers regarding IT failures or upgrades.

Responsibilities for SDA Information Support Officer

In this role, you will be entrusted to:
• Provide direction to the Information Support Administrators and deal with any issues raised by them and more complex requests to ensure a high quality of service is maintained.
• Interpret policy and maintain information environments and records to ensure compliance with Information Management good practice, standards, policy, and legislation.
• Carry out requirements capture and build information solutions to agreed standards.
• Actively manage end user expectations to provide high levels of service.
• Deliver Knowledge and Information Management related training and briefings to increase knowledge and skills.
• Provide guidance for stakeholders and share best practice across the KIM community.
• Support Records Management to ensure information can be stored, retrieved effectively and risks managed.
• Work collaboratively with other teams and other functional team members to deliver the service.
• Contribute to the work of the team, function by suggesting improvements or new ways of working to improve the quality of the Information Management.
• Be an active part of the Knowledge and Information Management community, attend meetings and participate in working groups.
• Fulfil Primary Delivery Manager responsibilities for your direct reports if required.
• Improve capability within the function and participate in other function improvement activities.

• Experience of Knowledge & Information Management in an organisation

• SharePoint experience
• Experience in stakeholder management and communication
• Aspiring Subject Matter Expert (SME)

If the outcome of the review results in an increase in the minimum salary and your salary offer falls below the new minimum, your salary will be increased to the new amount from your contracted start date. If the new minimum is less than the salary you are offered, the original salary offer will be retained.
