The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) has an exciting career opportunity for an eager and experienced Engineer to join one of our largest and most advanced projects. The position available will specialise in a variety of engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical, Quality Assurance and Design. You will be representing the SDA as a customer to Babcock, so will have the relevant technical skills required to oversee their designs through the design lifecycle and into construction, ensuring our bespoke dockyard and maintenance facilities for the Astute-class of submarines is built to requirements.

Responsibilities for Engineer

In the role of Engineer, you will use your technical expertise to engage with customers and stakeholders, informing and supporting technical decision-making activities related to 10 Dock and 5BB project.
The responsibilities of this post will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Contribute to Babcock design and safety processes to support delivery of the 10 Dock and 5BB facilities
• Report on technical progress, planning, risks and issues
• Utilise your expertise to provide independent evaluation of the proposed technical solutions against requirements for senior stakeholders, protecting Value for Money
• Contribute to the technical elements of the New Engineering Contract (NEC4) contract
• Advise on qualitative assessments of engineering risks and manage engineering mitigations
• Act as quality through design lead for SWIF engineering activities
• Maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Minimum of a HNC (e.g., Level 4 or higher) qualification in an engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
    • Experience working in a high value complex infrastructure programme or from a highly regulated industry, such as oil & gas, rail, defence, civil, nuclear, or closely related

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

  • Awareness of the NEC4 framework
