We are hiring enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our British Forces Postal Office team, based out of Aldershot. For centuries, our Armed Forces have managed an in-house postal service, delivering mail across our military history including both World Wars. The BFPO is dedicated to providing postal and courier services to the UK Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Other Government Depts (OGDs) and is a renowned brand across Defence. Approximately 250 dedicated, hardworking civilian and military staff work collaboratively across 11 sites in the UK to deliver personal, official and classified mail to over 650 locations across the globe; keeping our Armed Forces, MOD and OGDs connected through a range of services that play a vital role in sustaining morale and operational effectiveness.
You’ll ensure that the armed forces mail is handled in a secure, safe and timely fashion and be responsible for ensuring the correct receipting, sorting, dispatch and delivery of all types of mail in a secure, logical and methodical manner. Responsibilities for Postal and Mail Operator – Part Time
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, hardworking and organised individual who can work in a customer-focused environment and to tight timescales, while remaining positive and focused on delivery.
The responsibilities of this post will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Maintaining the flow of mail into and out of the Delivery Mail Centre
• Sort and despatch mail both internally and externally
• Delivery of mail to the site and surrounding area, either by foot or vehicle
• Auditing, recording and maintaining accurate accounts documentation
• Carry out item security checks, account balancing and reconciliation up to 3 times daily
• Liaise with industry partners to ensure the best possible service is provided
• Manage location security including vault security and maintenance and operation of key registers
• Deal with prohibited and restricted mail items and all mail irregularities including damaged, broken or loose items/bags and box returns according to DE&S processes, ensuring it is documented correctly
• Responsible for Security, Safety Health Environment and Fire and ensure that local orders are adhered to
You will be required to carry out Road Service Schedules ensuring timely delivery of mail, carrying out driver and courier duties in accordance with standing orders and security regulations. Delivery of mail may comprise the majority of your working hours.
Individuals are expected to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others that may be affected by their acts or omissions at work and to observe best practice and compliance with legislation in the protection of the environment and the conservation of energy. There is a requirement to lift mail items weighing up to 11kg unaided and up to 30kg with assistance.
Please note this post requires 100% site attendance. As a Postal and Mail Operator, you will be required to work part time, totalling 29.5 hours a week Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:30 – 15:30, though some additional hours or flexible working may be required.
What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
• Previous experience of working in a warehouse or postal service environment
• Good customer focus and stakeholder engagement experience
• Intermediate IT skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word and Excel)
• A Full manual UK driving license and be able to drive a transit size van on a rotational basis
It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Previous supervisory experience preferably within a postal, logistics, distribution, manufacturing or retail services environment

If the outcome of the review results in an increase in the minimum salary and your salary offer falls below the new minimum, your salary will be increased to the new amount from your contracted start date.
