The DE&S T45 Napier team have a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic Electrical Engineer to lead on electrical safety and design assurance within a complex and technically challenging project to improve the resilience of the Royal Navy Type 45 ‘Daring’ class fleet of ships.
As Electrical Engineering Lead, you will report directly to the Chief Engineer providing engineering support and assurance on all activities related to electrical power and distribution systems on the Type 45 ships. You will be influential in supporting the upgrade of the Type 45’s integrated electrical propulsion system.

Responsibilities for Marine Electrical Engineer
As the T45 Napier Electrical Engineering Lead, you’ll be responsible for the development, implementation, and delivery of activities against Engineering Management Plans. This includes engagement with stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and industry partners to ensure that systems and equipment are safe by design and remain safe to operate.
In this role, you will support junior members of the team and will be a role model in excellence, integrity and accountability.
Other responsibilities will include:
• Leading on the development of requirements including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications
• Managing the delivery of all electrical related engineering aspects, and ensuring that the design is compliant with defined system requirements, electrical legislation and defence standards
• Interfacing with industry as the intelligent customer and providing expert advice and guidance to solve complex technical problems
• Ensuring safety and engineering risks are identified, managed and mitigated using appropriate safety risk management practices
• Monitoring and implementing governance, assurance policies, standards, and procedures to safeguard the ‘safe and professional’ status of the project
• Supporting test and acceptance events by contributing to test & commissioning working groups, reviewing & approving equipment and system test forms and trials serials

What you will be assessed against
To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
• You will hold a relevant Level 6 qualification (i.e., Bachelor’s degree) or demonstrable equivalent engineering experience
• Knowledge of high voltage and low voltage power generation and distribution systems
• Knowledge, skills and experience in safety management
• You will have a wide-ranging depth and breadth of experience in an electrical technical discipline
• You will have experience of stakeholder management
