The defence sector is constantly changing and, as such, we need engineers from different backgrounds and disciplines to look ahead to new technologies. As an Electrical Engineer with us, you will apply your technical skills and experience to deliver innovative, high performing systems to meet our military and strategic customers’ capability needs.

These positions fall within Land Equipment Operating Centre (LEOC), which covers various Land Equipment projects such as Mechanised Infantry Vehicle, Main Battle Tanks, Artillery and Multi Launch Rocket Systems.

Specifically, these roles will be working on two of our high-profile Armoured Fighting Vehicle programmes with Challenger 3 and AJAX. Both programmes are critical to providing the Army with the next generations of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) which incorporate cutting edge technology, capable of coping with the demands of the modern battlefield.

Responsibilities for Electrical Engineer

As one of our Electrical Engineers, you’ll work closely with our team of experts to drive some of the most complex and critical programmes in the UK, making a real difference to lives at home and abroad.

You will be the lead Engineer responsible for electrical power generation & management, electronic architecture, battery management systems, electrical sensors & integration as well as software integration with other areas of the programme team.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Managing the delivery of all electrical power and distribution engineering activities including managing the acquisition safety aspects
• Providing expert advice and guidance to solve complex technical problems and identifying application risks
• Managing the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more projects, programmes, services or systems
• Monitoring and implementing governance and assurance policies and procedures to ensure ‘safe & professional’ status
• Leading on the development of requirements including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications
• Interfacing with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

• Able to achieve, or currently holding Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status, or have demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
• Hold a relevant HNC (Level 4 or higher) qualification in an Engineering or STEM subject, or have the equivalent experience
• Have experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
• Have wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in electrical and/or electronic systems, with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

• Applied technical experience on military land platforms
• Systems safety knowledge & experience
