How long have you worked for DE&S?
You’ve been here a long time, why did you choose to pursue a career in DE&S?
Because of the variety of opportunities open to you – working abroad, supported training and development, career structure, flexible working and feeling a sense of achievement by contributing to supporting our forces.
What are the opportunities to develop and progress within your business area?
I am in the Corporate Services Function and the opportunities to develop and progress are available if you choose to do so. CSG are developing a series of recognised qualifications for the function which are useful in the outside world, which I think is a real step forward for the function.

Are you a member of any networks? If so, why did you decide to join and what benefits do they bring to you?
I am a member of the CAN Network which allows you to provide input into shaping our organisational change initiatives and gives you the opportunity to get involved in supporting the business and colleagues. I am also a member of the MOD Women’s Network and am in the process of setting up a branch at Yeovil.
Would you recommend DE&S to others as a great place to work?
Yes – definitely particularly due to the variety of roles/functions and flexible working.
What are the social benefits of working for DE&S?
Working in a large organisation allows you to meet a variety of people and build relationships.
I am also a member of the Civil Service Sports Council where you can join in on social activities arranged by your local branch as well as receiving discounts from hundreds of retailers.
How do you build a successful career at DE&S?
Keep persevering, be willing to take on challenges, work outside your comfort zone, seek feedback and gather a wide spectrum of evidence to support and enhance your skillset.
